Rooted in a love for all things real estate and compassion for the clients they serve, the dynamic mother-daughter duo have parlayed their expertise in 2023 Chicago luxury real estate to a staggering $71 million in sales. “Yes, it was a very productive, busy and fun year,” says Joanne. “We have phenomenal clients and we feel thankful to be able to help them navigate the somewhat complex purchase and sale process.”
With more than three decades of experience, Joanne’s journey from attorney to a consistent leader in Chicago’s real estate market began with a desire for a more flexible and independent career during her pregnancy. “I love that real estate allows us to be entrepreneurs,” she explains. “You are your own boss. It is very exciting, as you know you can make a difference in people’s lives.” The Nemerovski legacy doesn’t stop with Joanne. Enter Rachel, her daughter and partner in their joint adventure. With a background in advertising, public relations and marketing, Rachel brings an expert marketing perspective to the table, joining her mother in early 2020. Once flying solo as “Joanne Sells Chicago,” the team may soon undergo a name transformation to the “Nemerovski Network” to better reflect this powerful mother-daughter partnership.
Specializing in the most desirable areas of Chicago, including the Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, Streeterville, DePaul, Bucktown, West Loop, Lakeview, Old Town and everywhere in between, the Nemerovskis thrive on a repeat and referral business that boasts an impressive 98 percent. “We hand-hold our clients and provide a white-glove service, attempting to always go above and beyond their expectations,” shares Joanne. The team’s marketing strategy is anything but ordinary. Rather than mass mailers and generic flyers, they take a personalized approach. “We market to the buyer. It’s very specific for each property,” says Rachel, highlighting their ability to tailor their efforts to the unique characteristics of each listing and client.
“I love being in people’s lives at a personal level and being able to really help at a critical time,” Joanne enthuses. “There are a lot of moving parts and pieces to a sale, and if you don’t have a professional who is walking you through each phase, you can be led astray, overpay, or worse, buy something problematic.” Rachel wholeheartedly concurs. “I love getting to know the people we represent, just like my mother does,” she says. “We both love design, so it’s always fun to walk through different places and think about what can be accomplished and the future home our client with make.”
It’s not just about the bottom line for the Nemerovskis. They’re deeply involved in the community as well. Joanne serves on the board of Comer Children’s Hospital, as well as the board of Facing History and Ourselves, and is an honorary trustee at a private school in her immediate neighborhood. Joanne and Rachel together help sponsor events for both animal welfare organizations and the Respiratory Health Association.
As for the future, Joanne and Rachel foresee growth but with a continued personal touch. “We might be looking to add on to our team and grow it a little bit more, but we won’t ever be a huge team,” Joanne explains. “We love the personal relationships and experiences that we share with people, and most of our clients end up being very good friends.” Adds Rachel, “We really love that aspect of real estate.”
