TERRI GEMAS

TERRI GEMAS

Terri Gemas began her real estate career 35 years ago when she was living in the Caribbean. Terri has always loved real estate and houses, and she is also a professional equestrian, so when she was able to combine these two passions into a rewarding career, it was meant to be. Terri’s clients appreciate her attention to detail, hard work, and the personalized service she provides in helping them achieve their real estate goals.

Terri is licensed and based in New Hampshire, but she is also licensed in Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, and the US Virgin Islands. She calls herself the “Snowbird Express” because many of her clients hire her to find them properties in Florida and the Virgin Islands so they can escape the chill of the New England winters. More than half of Terri’s business comes from repeat and referral clients, and it’s easy to see why people keep coming back. “I don’t stop until a client is happy,” Terri explains. “I will search high and low for the right property, even if it’s not listed.” Terri goes the extra mile, and her attention to detail continues once a property is under contract and even after the sale. “I always check in afterward to make sure everyone is happy!” she says.

Communication is key for Terri in maintaining personal relationships with her clients. She is proudly old-school in that all of her notes to clients are handwritten, and they appreciate the personal touch. “My clients are always amazed at how I remember all of their animals’ names, but to me it’s easy because I enjoy meeting them as much as my clients,” Terri says.

Her in-depth knowledge of the equestrian world sets Terri apart and helps her know how to market specific properties. “It’s important to know how much acreage is open or wooded since horses are grazing animals, or if the stalls are standard size or if they are the larger draft or broodmare size. It’s even more important to know where the closest Veterinary Hospitals, equine dentists and chiropractors and farriers are located to put my clients’ minds at ease.

“There are different types of horse properties: some are designed for professionals or competitive riders, some are best suited for pleasure riders,” she says. “So when I am marketing an equine property, I target specific local magazines and publications where the property would be best suited.” Terri’s skill at niche marketing makes all the difference in ensuring that a property receives exposure with the right audience.

Community involvement is important to Terri, and she gives back to charities and organizations that benefit both animals and people. She donates time and money from every closing to organizations like HALO, which helps handicapped kids have the opportunity to ride horses, as well as a club for low-income kids to get riding lessons from the very best instructors. Terri also rescues horses herself, and donates to numerous animal shelters including the Animal Care Center in St. John and the Humane Society of St. Thomas.

When she is not working, Terri loves making her animals happy. She hikes every day with her dogs, spends hours spoiling her horses, and her favorite pastime is riding with friends or spending time on her favorite island, St. John in the US Virgin Islands.

In the future, Terri plans to continue doing what she loves and giving her clients the best service possible. “I don’t want to expand, because I’m about quality, not quantity,” Terri says. “I just want to keep everybody happy and be successful in real estate while also giving back. I get to sell houses and farms that I love and it helps me make the world a better place, so I’m really lucky.”
