Dan McNellis started his work in real estate in 2003 at Keller Williams. After learning everything he could at the company, he decided to get his broker’s license and started his own firm, EarthStone Realty, with the intention of giving the same quality service for a much better price. He’s been in the business 17 years now, serving the Twin Cities area as well as Wisconsin.
EarthStone Realty is a discount brokerage that offers low fees and allows the sellers to keep more of their own money. Dan was inspired by the idea of being able to provide clients something affordable, so that instead of splitting his commission with a broker, he can give his clients a better rate. This setup saves his clients thousands of dollars, and takes some of the stress out of what can be a very stressful process for most.
Aside from his competitive pricing, Dan’s clients greatly value never feeling pressured into a transaction, which earns him a great deal of repeat and referral business. “I make it my credo to never pressure my buyers. I’ll show them as many houses as they need to see for them to feel comfortable before making their purchase. I’m more of a facilitator than a sales person. I’m only looking to help them purchase a house that makes them happy and fulfills all their needs, because if I help them do that, then they’re going to have a positive experience, and they’re going to come back to me when they need a REALTOR® again, or refer me to their friends and family,” he says.
With as many as 55 transactions completed in 12 months, it’s Dan’s thorough approach to pricing and marketing his listings that ensures they get the maximum exposure on all the online portals through MLS. But even though he’s enjoying his successful career, it’s not the number of transactions that wakes him up in the morning eager to work, it’s the number of people whose lives he gets to change. “I like being of service to people. You have to enjoy helping others if you want to do well in this industry,” he says.
While he spends the majority of his time with clients or working on his computer, in the moments when he does have some time off, Dan enjoys practicing his musical skills on his drum set, spending quality time with his family, and going to his son’s baseball games. He’s also involved at his local church.
Speaking about his future plans, Dan hopes to continue offering the same level of excellent and affordable customer service that he has thus far. He’s not looking to compete with other agents, and he isn’t out to try to win business away from anyone else. “I feel that there is enough business for all of us in this industry. I just want to provide a good service to my community and make a comfortable living doing it.”
