Michelle Athens was born with the real estate gene. Coming from a long line of real estate agents, she knew she would join the family tradition and one day become a REALTOR®. She currently works with a trusted assistant and serves clients throughout South Florida.
As a lifelong resident of South Florida, Michelle has in-depth knowledge of the local market and the ability to negotiate the best deal for her clients, which is her favorite part of the job. “One of the things that keeps me motivated in this business is the negotiation aspect. There’s always some type of challenge on how to get the best deal, and when I win those negotiations that is one of the best feelings ever. That’s what keeps the whole job fresh,” she says. And her drive to be the best agent for her clients inspired her to earn the Certified Real Estate Negotiation Specialist designation as well as a Sellers Representative Specialist Designation.
Being client-focused is crucial for Michelle as she always strives to give the people she works with personal attention throughout the entire transaction process. Her level of dedication helped her amass a large percentage of repeat and referral business. “What I’ve learned over the years is that real estate is based on relationships, and I genuinely enjoy building relationships with people. It’s always fun to make new friends.” In order to stay in touch with past clients she sends out handwritten cards for their home purchase anniversary, special holidays and checks in on them through social media and phone calls.
Michelle also uses social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram for her marketing needs. But she believes nothing beats a successful open house. And her numbers reflect her work ethic, as just last year she sold $5 million in volume. But if you ask Michelle, it’s not the numbers that she prioritizes. “I’ve had a lot of clients tell me they feel I’m trust worthy. I’d rather make less money on a deal by being honest. The relationship with my client is a lot more valuable to me than the commission. It keeps me focused on always doing what’s best for my clients.”
In her off time Michelle loves to go camping with her family. Outside of work she is involved with her church, has hosted bible studies and taught a bible study class to kids. Her moral values extend to her business philosophy, which consists of always doing the right thing. “I keep in mind that God is my ultimate provider, so as long as I keep doing what is right, and what’s honest, then more business will keep coming my way. I’ve worked with that philosophy for the last 15 years and I’ve never had a problem staying busy.”
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has been a detrimental factor for most businesses, Michelle has done her best to find positives in all the chaos, and figure out ways to do business more efficiently and effectively. Going forward her focus continues to be her clients. “I’m currently enjoying this aspect of working with my clients one-on-one. It’s always tempting to build a team, but at the moment I’m just focused on meeting my own standards and giving my clients the highest level of service.”
