Top Lender in Illinois Tory Tarsitano, CRMS, has a reputation. In an industry that has seen its share of boom and bust over the last 20 years, he’s the guy who still has the same phone number.

“When the crash came down,” he says, “I never left for a single day. People always ask me how I made it through the down cycles. I really believe it’s because I’ve always done the right thing from day one. My clients know I am a real person and that regardless of what state the industry is in, I’ve always treated them fairly and ethically.

I’ve always been honest with them. They appreciate it and in turn keep coming back and referring their family and friends. After graduating college with a degree in finance, Tarsitano, CRMS took a salaried job, but several of his college friends who had joined the mortgage industry soon recruited him. “It was much more up my alley,” he says.

Over 28 years later he’s still at it and loves the ever-changing nature of the industry. “There are always new ways to help people,” he says. “That’s what keeps this business fun.”

“The foundation of every client relationship I have is education,” Tarsitano, CRMS says. “That’s something that a lot of traditional bankers neglect. I want to be a long-term partner with the client. And that means if you have questions about something…even if you don’t need a mortgage at the moment, I’m going to answer that phone call.”

And that call is rarely the same. “A first-time buyer who may need credit repairs, for example, has different concerns than an investor,” he says. “We aim to be an asset to everyone, regardless of their situation.”

That requires a depth of knowledge that only comes with extensive experience and education. He is one of only 24 mortgage bankers in the State of Illinois to achieve the CRMS designation, a rigorous certification bestowed by the National Association of Mortgage Brokers.

After over two decades in business, that dedication is finding a new generation as clients are sending their children to him. “They often come to me with a very different set of needs than their parents,” he says.

“We spend a lot of time upfront explaining the process to them. We introduce them to the members of our team and explain what part each of them plays. We let them know what our strengths are, and where those might fit in with their goals. We don’t really have a sales pitch. I’ll explain how I can help, and if it’s of benefit, great. But if not, that’s okay too.”

In that same spirit, he asks for no application fees up front. “I’m perfectly willing to see if we can earn your business,” he says. His five-star rating on Zillow would indicate that the gamble has paid off with a large community of clients who happily recommend his services.

Tarsitano, CRMS, has a large support team and handles a wide range of products, from FHA loans with a credit rating down to 500 to conventional, jumbo and NON QM. The group is licensed in Illi­nois, Indiana, Wisconsin, California, Arizona , Texas, Michigan and Florida and has a 100 percent repeat and referral rate.

Thanks to his relationships with builders, Realtors, attorneys and past clients, his business has grown exponentially. Over the next year, Tarsitano, CRMS plans to expand his team and widen his group’s footprint. You can bet he’ll make it happen—and he’ll still have the same phone number.
