Lynn Morris has always had a passion for real estate. During her previous career as a Human Resources Director, she and her husband bought, fixed up and sold several homes over the years. She realized combining her love of working with people with her love of real estate would be a natural fit. Now in her 17th year as an agent, Lynn is a powerhouse in her community and the broker of The Realty Team, which totals 13 total agents, including Lynn, her husband, her older daughter and her son-in-law. She also employs her youngest daughter’s boyfriend–currently a law school student–as her second assistant. “It’s a family business as well as my team,” Lynn says. “I have a great team of agents, and all of them have been at my office for a long time.”

Lynn and the rest of The Realty Team serve Watertown, South Dakota, as well as the surrounding area, such as Webster, Sisseton, Clear Lake and Castlewood. A mind-blowing 98% of her clients come from repeat and referral business, a strong testament to the specialized, caring service she provides. “My Human Resources background has been critical to my business. My customer service is a huge focus of my business, so I don’t lose clients. They bring repeat business for years and years to come,” Lynn says. This dedication to service results in a booming team. “My office includes 13 out of 141 licensees in the Watertown area. We have 9.2% of the agents in Watertown and at the end of the first quarter we had done 39% of the business.” Lynn is consistently a top residential real estate agent in the Watertown area, and won the 2016 Achievement Award, as well as 2015 Real Estate Agent of the Year for the NESD Association of Realtors.

Lynn is also a licensed home stager, and she stages each of her listings herself at no cost to her clients. “Staging is my creative outlet. I enjoy it so much, so I do it as a hobby. I provide it as a free service to people who list with our office.” To market listings, she does professional photography for her properties. She also carefully tailors her marketing strategy for each listing.

After a transaction has closed, Lynn stays in touch with her clients. “Often they become close family friends,” she says. “My relationships with my clients are much more than a business transaction with me.” To maintain those relationships, Lynn sends out mailings and holds an annual customer appreciation event. “Last year we had over 500 people attend,” Lynn says with a smile.

What does she love most about her work? “The personal relationships I make with my clients,” Lynn says. “Sometimes I think about the number of true friends I’ve gained in the real estate business. I loved being a Human Resources Director as well, but I didn’t have the opportunity to meet so many people on a personal level.”

Lynn works as passionately for her community as she does for her individual clients. She’s active in her church and has been Local Board President of the Real Estate Agent Association for two out of the last four years. She acted as co-host for the Real Estate Convention for North and South Dakota one of the years she was President. She also strongly encourages agents on The Realty Team to attend leadership academies to develop their own skills. A strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, Lynn and her team participate in the Habitat for Humanity builds in their area. In her rare free time, she enjoys traveling with her family. Lynn feels incredibly blessed; and for the future, she wants to pay it forward by nurturing the agents on her team and helping them to attain their goals.
