Back in 2013, Kim Cumbo was working at Lowes Home Improvement Center when it hit her, “There has to be something more for me than big box stores,” she recalls. She had always loved houses and real estate, so she went ahead and studied for the license exam while interviewing at several local agencies. “For the first year, I was working full time at the local high school as a teacher’s aide, part time at Lowes, and trying to sell real estate,” she says. “Then one of the managers, who happened to be a friend, kicked my butt and said, ‘you need to be focusing on real estate full time.’ And he was right.” In 2016, she was accepted to the Lancaster Board of Realtors Leadership Academy and took it as a sign she was heading in the right direction.

She now works for Better Home and Gardens Real Estate Bighill in Lancaster, Ohio, serving Fairfield and the surrounding counties.

Within her first year as a real estate agent, Kim earned the Achievement Club award in 2014. Half way through her second year, she earned the BHG Leader Club Award. In 2015, she earned the Lancaster Board of Realtors Silver award, and in 2016, she took the Lancaster Board of Realtors Gold award and Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate award for over 2,000,000 in sales. “I have continued to grow my business and am very grateful to all of my clients who have put their trust in me,” she exclaims.

In 2017, her sales were just under $3 million; 2018 sales came in at $2 million, and 2019 sales were just under $4 million.

With her top-notch skills and acclaimed work ethic, Kim reports that her business is 75% repeat and referral clientele. “I believe people keep returning because I am honest and down to earth,” she notes. “They are comfortable around me and that makes me feel happy.”

It’s not surprising that she earns stellar reviews from past clients. One customer wrote: “I accidentally met Kim when I drove past her house while she was having a yard sale, and I learned she is a real estate agent. It happens I planned to call a real estate agent that day to see a certain home that week, and Kim arranged a viewing for me. She spent all the time we needed showing us through the house and gave us information about the house. She is very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I don’t think it was an “accident” that I met her that day. I think it was meant to be.”

Kim is a member of the Lancaster Board of Realtors, Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Columbus multiple listing service, Lancaster Multiple Listing Service, Athens Multiple Listing Service, Ohio Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and a graduate of Lancaster Board of Realtors Leadership Academy.

Because of her warm personality, Kim forms solid relationships with many of her clients and reaches out frequently. “We chat by phone, text or write to one another on Facebook,” she says.

What Kim loves most is working with first-time home buyers. “There’s nothing more exciting than helping someone find their dream home,” she says. “It’s so wonderful to go to a closing and see the smiles on their faces.”

When not working, she spends time with my grandkids, gardens, and rides one of the two motorcycles she owns. “! I belong to an all ladies riding club, and we love to do road trips as well as volunteer in our communities,” she says.

As for her future plans, Kim just hopes to continue what she’s doing. “Working in real estate is the perfect job for people in retirement,” she says. “You get to work with all kinds of amazing people and do it at your own pace.”
