Known for her unparalleled customer service and market knowledge, Dawna Banks goes above and beyond to help each client successfully achieve their real estate goals. Dawna became interested in real estate right out of high school and got a job in the mortgage industry. “I’ve always been interested in real estate, even the construction side of it,” she says. But her life took a turn and she started working as an air traffic controller, which provided her with financial security. It wasn’t until she retired that she began investing in real estate and obtained her license to work on her own deals.
Shortly after, Dawna discovered how much more rewarding it felt to work with other clients and decided to start her own agency—Foundation Realty Group—in 2018, along with her husband, Bob. Together with their team they help buyers and sellers throughout the New Hampshire area and Massachusetts. Dawna is also the owner of JDM Properties, which she established in 2015. The company is a real estate investment firm that specializes in rentals, and rehabbing foreclosed properties as well as homes in disrepair, and reselling them to new homeowners.
Dawna enjoys helping others, and offers a variety of programs for veterans, first responders, and police officers. “That’s been a huge part of our business. Maybe for other agencies it’s not the best business model, but my husband always says, ‘If you can go to the closing table and feel better about what you can do for somebody at the end of the day, that’s better than receiving a big commission.’ That’s primarily why we decided to start our own agency, so that we could do these things. We also encourage our agents to do the same,” she explains.
Dawna prioritizes education, and in 2018 she completed the full Home Inspector Course at the Professional Home Inspectors Institute so that she could offer her clients better insight during the transaction. “I wanted to gain more knowledge about every aspect of the homes themselves as well as their systems which has helped me a great deal to be able to address many questions that buyers often have when they are touring homes. Of course this in no way replaces a home inspection, and we always recommend all buyers get a home inspection, but it has definitely given me a wealth of knowledge that will benefit both myself and my buyers throughout my career.”
A huge believer in offering personalized service, Dawna puts a huge emphasis on being available to speak with her clients and not delegating her work to anyone else. “I refuse to have an assistant. When people hire me, I want them to be able to call me and speak to me. I don’t want anyone else picking up the phone. That’s very important to me,” she explains, and adds, “We continue to keep in touch with our clients long after the transaction is over. We send them gifts and keep up with their lives through phone calls and having dinners together when time allows.”
When she’s not working, Dawna loves to work out and read. She’s also adjusting to a recently empty household. “My husband and I have become empty-nesters, so we’re trying to figure out what to do with our time!”
Completing anywhere between $10,000,000 to $40,000,000 million in sales volume per year, Dawna is happy with the trajectory of her business and plans to continue expanding and providing her clients with high-quality service. “I love working with my clients and getting to meet such a wide variety of individuals and help them accomplish their dreams.”
