For Debbie Ogren, working in real estate is more than just a career, it’s a passion that defines her life. “Some people take vacations to be happy, I sell real estate. Whether I’m showing homes, negotiating deals, or just talking about the industry, I am never happier than when I’m doing real estate,” she explains with a laugh.
Like many other agents, Debbie didn’t start her career working in real estate. For many years she worked in customer service and sales, eventually taking on a role as a call center supervisor for a telecommunications company. After years of dealing with the stress that came with this position, Debbie burned out and decided to shift into real estate. In the 6 years since, she has closed hundreds of transactions and developed a reputation as one of the go-to real estate experts in her community. Based out of her office in Mankato, Minnesota, Debbie operates within a 30 to 50 mile radius of the city.
Debbie credits her honesty and earnest attitude as being the main drivers of her success. “During the very first conversation I have with my clients, I explain to them that I will always tell them the good, the bad, and the ugly,” she explains. “I also think that because I’m so comfortable with who I am, it allows everyone I work with to feel comfortable and know that they can trust me.” This upfront attitude has helped Debbie forge deep connections with her clients, and she says “most of them become my friends by the time we’re done.” This approach clearly resonates with people, as over 70% of Debbie’s business comes from repeat clients or referrals.
Another key aspect of Debbie’s approach is her emphasis on education. She does everything she can to ensure that our clients understand each step of the buying or selling process. These efforts are facilitated by her professional experience in education, having taught at the collegiate level while pursuing her Masters degree, and worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester as a Patient Educator while studying as an undergraduate.
Staying involved in her community is incredibly important to Debbie, so she is a big supporter of numerous charitable organizations. For the past two years she has been a financial supporter of the Minnesota Valley Action Council, an organization that provides low-income Minnesotans with services and resources. She is also a supporter of the United Way’s ‘Women with Heart’ luncheon. Additionally, Debbie volunteers her time with the Salvation Army every Christmas and this year volunteered at the Echo Food Shelf during Thanksgiving.
When she isn’t working or giving back to the community, Debbie likes to spend her time running, listening to audiobooks, and riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In thinking about the future, Debbie is excited to continue helping people in her community find their perfect home. “I feel like every day is a blessing, I just want to continue to help as many people as God sees fit.”
