When Southern California Broker Jeff Pantanella was looking for a new brokerage to join, he couldn’t find one that aligned with his core values. So he decided to create his own and opened Pantanella & Partners in Brentwood, California. This kind of innovative thinking is nothing new for Jeff, who graduated from one of the nation’s top art schools and enjoyed a thriving 15‐year career in commercial and fine art before pursuing real estate.

Shortly after getting his license, he began working as agent for one of the top teams in California. The two owners of the business educated Jeff from the ground up, and he ended up in partnership with them for 12 years, eventually becoming co-owner and CEO. After parting amicably and spending some time soul searching, Jeff decided to return to real estate and joined a familiar agency. He had a great first year, but he couldn’t help feeling like something was missing.

His desire to strike out on his own was sparked when he asked himself a simple question: “What am I specifically getting from the brokerage that can help me grow my business the way I want it to grow?” When he realized the answer was nothing more than a traditional sales approach, i.e. more door knocking, more cold calling, more marketing to a farm area, the decision was clear and Pantanella & Partners was born. Originally planning to stay solo for a while, word spread throughout the real estate community that his was brokerage was doing things differently. “I ended up taking on four or five agents in the first few weeks,” he says. “When I started working with them, their production increased; some doubled or tripled in six months what they’d done annually for years.”

That’s when Jeff realized he had something he could pass on to other agents to help them. “I knew I could teach agents how to work smarter, not harder and do more production in less time so they could pursue the other things they’d like to do.” This work/life balance is especially important to Jeff, who remembers working nearly seven days a week, almost around the clock.

Because other brokerages are focused on agent count, they tend to have a one‐size‐fits‐all mentality for development. The opposite is true of Pantanella & Partners. “I sit down with each agent individually and create a business plan specific to them,” Jeff says. “Whatever their goals are, we formulate a plan to make it happen,” he continues. “I teach my agents how to build a consistent deal flow so they don’t have the peaks and valleys they’re used to. It frees them up to seek more repeatable business and not have to concentrate on searching for one deal at a time.”

Jeff also spends time with every agent each week for one‐on‐one coaching, to help remind them of their goals and the things they need to do to get to the next level. “We create weekly action plans,” Jeff says. “It may just be a few things every week, but if they do those things consistently, by the end of the year, they’ve done a lot.”

One of the company’s core values, and something Jeff looks for in his agents, is integrity. “That means always doing the right thing,” he says. “If there’s ever a problem with a transaction, we don’t believe in finger pointing, we simply do whatever we can to make it right.”

Looking forward, Jeff would like to keep growing Pantanella & Partners at a stable pace so he can continue to offer his agents the coaching they need to be successful.

“The most satisfaction I get is being able to help people,” he says. “It feels great to hand someone a plan and say: ‘if you simply follow it, these opportunities will come to you.’”
