Many people in the real estate business talk about the satisfaction of seeing their clients’ faces when first-time buyers become homeowners. It is a veritable cavalcade of emotions – smiles, unbridled enthusiasm, tears of joy, hugs, relief. For REALTOR® Corina Hamby, it’s more than just satisfying, however. It’s personal.

“I grew up in the Dominican Republic. We go back every year, and we bring school supplies and we’re also able to help people get some food on their table. That’s how I met my husband, going back to the Dominican Republic to help,” explained Corina, now an agent with Elite Realty LLC in the Montgomery, Alabama area. “I myself come from a very poor village so to me there’s nothing better than to see the smile on those people’s faces. But, more importantly it’s showing them that home ownership is possible, showing them that they can do it, showing them that when nobody else wanted to spend time with them, you can look at them and tell them ‘We got this. We can do it.’”

Corina’s passion to help the disadvantaged spills over into everything she has done as a REALTOR®, from when she first started in the business in the Dominican Republic to her current role in the U.S., where she earned her license to conduct business here four years ago. Married with three children, Corina had a dual challenge – not only to get her license but to learn how to speak English.

“I think that’s something that keeps me very busy is the fact that I am bilingual and speak English and Spanish,” said Corina, who closed almost 50 transactions in 2021 and won awards for most transactions, most units moved and for being a top producer. “I show as many houses as possible. I give 100 percent, whether (a home) costs a dollar or $1 million. Everybody means the same to me. It’s not what you make in real estate, it’s the result.”

Though her repeat and referral business is still building, she makes sure to stay connected with all clients through emails, texts and calls, emphasizing to all that “No, you’re not bothering me at all!” And as she mentioned, she treats all home buyers the same, immediately having a sit-down with any prospective clients and assigning them a professional photographer once they sign on with her.

During her down time, Corina said she just enjoys being a wife and mother, being actively involved with the kids’ baseball and football participation as well as her active involvement in fundraisers and sponsorships. As for her business, she has ambitious goals.

“I see myself being big. I was able to help 47 people last year and I would like to double that this year. Not because of me but because of them,” Corina said. “I have a lot of people waiting in line for me to help them. I am intending to do even better than last year.”
