How did Carol Smith and Dina Velez become one of the most well respected and trusted real estate teams in San Bernadino county?
Carol worked in commercial real estate and had a true passion for the business, but after having children she knew she needed a break from working nights and weekends, so she took a job in customer service at Frito Lay. Once her children were grown, she became licensed as a residential agent. She soon found she had the perfect personality for the business. “I like helping people,” Carol explains with a smile. “I’m the neighborhood helper.” At the office where she worked she met Dina, who had been a stay-at-home mom and initially studied for her license so she could purchase investment properties. “The two of us clicked and started building our business,” Dina says. “We work hard to give excellent customer service. That’s our biggest priority.”
Now with a combined twenty years in the business, Carol and Dina lead a team that consists of three buyers’ agents, an admin, and a virtual assistant serving the rural High Desert area. An impressive 60% of their business comes from repeat and referral clients. What keeps their clients coming back? “They know they can trust us, and that we watch out for their best interests. And they know we are always available to help them and answer any questions that may come up,” Dina says. Every single member of their team gives their all for each and every client. When it comes to staying in touch with past clients, Carol and Dina prefer a personal touch. They meet past clients for lunch, reach out by phone to say hello, and invite them to fun community events and their annual customer appreciation celebration.
When it comes time to market listings, Carol and Dina go the extra mile for their clients. They hire a professional photographer to take photographs that highlight the property’s best features. “We have aerial photos taken as well,” Carol says. “That’s important here because most properties are over an acre.” They then conduct a thorough marketing campaign on social media, purchase advertising in local magazines, and send “just listed” postcards. Typically their listings are in the $250,000 range and on average sell in 30 to 60 days. They closed over 90 transactions in 2018.
Dina and Carol’s favorite part of their work is the rewarding feeling of helping their clients to achieve their goals and move on to the next phase of their lives. To give back to the community, Carol and Dina are the #1 sponsors of a local Easter Egg hunt, participate in many activities and events to help children and seniors. They are members of the Kiwanis Club and two local Chambers. In their free time, they enjoy spending time with and helping their families. For the future, Carol and Dina want to continue growing their business and mentoring their team members so that they can grow their own careers and carry on Carol and Dina’s legacy!
