Many people approach home buying with trepidation as they anticipate a process filled with stress. Realtor Ryan Jones encourages his clients to think of it differently. “People should enjoy house-hunting as they would any other shopping experience. They don’t have to buy,” Ryan explains. “I’m a very social person, and I try to make the experience of looking fun for them. When they are ready to buy, I work hard to make sure the process is smooth and as stress-free as possible.”

Ryan brings a wealth of experience to that task. For starters, he grew up around the industry. “My mother has been a Realtor for nearly 25 years, and my father owned a construction company, and then transitioned into commercial and residential land development. I was always either going to showings with my Mom or hanging out at the construction sites with my Dad. I learned a lot from them early on.”

After graduating college, Ryan decided to go into real estate himself, getting his license in 2011. He spent several years cutting his teeth in the business—both in Baltimore and Los Angeles—before joining his mother’s team at Berkshire Hathaway in 2015. Serving clients in the Greater Baltimore area with The Mary Jones Team, he’s built a successful business in his own right. In 2020 they were awarded Berkshire Hathaway’s Chairman’s Circle GOLD, and this year have already met the requirements for Chairman’s Circle PLATINUM—ranking among the Top 1% of Agents nationwide, making in excess $500,000 in gross commission, and/or closing at least 100 units. The numbers aren’t really Ryan’s focus, though.

“I put my energy into fostering personal relationships with my clients rather than thinking about how many deals I’ve closed. I get to know them, find out exactly what they want, and when we find those homes that match their needs I share my knowledge to help them make good decisions. I’m honest and always available, which they appreciate. By the time the transaction is over, we’re usually friends!”

For his sellers, Ryan continues to go the extra mile in a market where it isn’t necessarily required. While his listings sell quickly enough through the MLS or social media marketing he does, he holds as many open houses as he can. “It’s just another great way to meet people and build community. We’ve had a lot of success and fun with Twilight Open Houses, which creates more of a party-event atmosphere.”

Ryan stays in touch with people after the closing too, reaching out through emails or texts or social media to check in on how they are doing and to let them know he’s available if they need anything. He also connects with them in person twice a year through planned client events, or ends up bumping into them through his community efforts. Ryan is active with The Pride Center of Maryland, which is dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ community. Their team sponsors an annual Thanksgiving food-drive supporting Maryland Food Bank, and Ryan remains ready and able to donate towards causes that his friends and clients are passionate about.

He’s excited about the future of his business, and plans to keep growing. “I’d like to continue to grow our team, purposefully, keeping it to a manageable size so that we can always maintain that personal connection with clients.”
