Long before Rick Cavallaro became a REALTOR®, he was an investor. 23 years ago, while he was working in a corporate job, he decided to do a few fix and flips. He thought he could do a better job than the agents who were helping him, so he decided to get licensed. Within a short period of time, friends and family were reaching out for help with their real estate needs. At a certain point, Rick realized that he would have to give up his corporate job if he wanted to keep pursuing real estate. The rest, as they say, is history.
While he originally used his last name for his brokerage, Rick took inspiration from a book his father gave him called “Rhinoceros Success,” by Scott Alexander to rebrand. “This book is about the benefits of having a ‘rhino mindset,’ which means charging hard and getting things done versus being a ‘cow’ and sitting around chewing our cud,” explains Rick. Tough and determined, rhinos are the perfect mascot for Rick’s real estate team. Along with his wife, two transaction coordinators and two agents, Rick now runs Rhino Realty Pros, representing buyers, sellers, and investors throughout the Metro-Denver, Colorado area. Known for their high customer satisfaction rates, they’ve won the Five Star Real Estate Award for Denver for the past seven years, an honor that is only given to the top 3% of agents in the region.
Today, Rick counts around 80% of his business as coming from referrals. His brokerage makes the process of home buying and selling a celebration and as a result, they are highly sought after. For example, they give little gifts for milestones like passing an inspection, and a larger custom gift at the closing. “We try to take the stress out of the process and make it a happy time for our clients,” explains Rick.
Taking the rhino metaphor a step further, Rick and his team support real rhinos in the wild. They are involved with several rhino conservation organizations, including the International Rhino Foundation, who work to prevent poaching and protect the five species of rhinoceros.
Annually, Rick and his team complete between $10-12 million in sales volume. That number will certainly continue to rise in the next few years as Rick plans to hire two more buyers agents. Since the pandemic, he has also been focused on expanding their technology, using virtual meetings to do things more efficiently. “We learn something new everyday,” he says. “Helping people is our driving force and it’s exciting to see what we’re capable of.”
