Tim’s professional trajectory began at the age of fifteen, when he moved from Phoenix to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a professional skateboarder. After finding stellar success at that endeavor (Thrasher Magazine credits him with helping to invent modern street skating), he joined with some friends in the purchase of a multi-unit investment property, which they soon sold for a hefty profit. In true entrepreneur fashion, Tim then co-founded multiple footwear companies, again to great success, growing his brands to $120 million. Selling the companies in 2012, he obtained his license and began selling at Keller Williams in Downtown Los Angeles. His recruitment by the Beverly Hills office followed, and he was awarded Rookie of the Year and Regional Rookie of the Year, with $25 million in sales his first year out of the gate.
Tim, who currently oversees a team of three, is in the process of expanding that team. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, Tim Gavin Real Estate has realized more than $20 million in sales, and shows no sign of slowing down. With more than half of his business based on repeat and referred clients, he and his team are clearly doing something right. “I think what my clients like about working with me is that they not only enjoy spending time with me, but they also appreciate the skills that I bring with the sales and marketing experiences from my past,” Tim explains. “I have a wealth of knowledge that makes navigating the process easier, and ensures that the deal is done in the best manner for my clients.”
The passion Tim feels for his chosen profession does not go unnoticed by his clients. “They know that I live and breathe real estate,” he says. “They know that I’m available to them twenty-four/seven, and that I’m always accessible and ready to assist them. They also know that I’m a very creative problem-solver and can get the deal done. I’m also very knowledgeable about the struggles and nuances of the Los Angeles market.”
Despite his impressive financial success, when asked what he enjoys most about what he does, Tim points to the more personal side of the business as providing him with the most satisfaction. “I love meeting new people every day,” he enthuses. “One of my biggest assets is being a people person. There’s nothing more rewarding than closing a deal and handing the keys to the buyers.” That his job does not require him to be office-bound is also highly appealing. “Real estate allows me to do everything that I love, which is to be out and about and to work with people.”
When Tim finds some down time, he enjoys nothing more than spending time with his son and daughter, and he is an avid supporter of their extracurricular activities, including volunteer coaching of his son’s basketball and baseball teams, and attending his daughter’s soccer games and dances. He is also an avid golfer who enjoys spending time on the course with his friends.
As for the future, Tim’s goal is fairly simple, and based on his impressive history, most likely easily attainable: “I want to be the number one agent in my office by next year,” he says. “I want to be the fastest growing team at Keller Williams in the Los Angeles area. I really want my agents to achieve their goals as quickly as I did. I truly have a love and a passion for seeing them succeed.”
