Art Avaness got his start in real estate when he was only 13, working as a summer assistant in his uncle’s RE/MAX office. In high school, Art also worked after school for a top agent in the same office, and when he turned 18 he secured his real estate license. While actively selling real estate, Art obtained his degree in marketing and communications. That was in 2004, and Art has been with RE/MAX ever since. For the past 17 years, Art has been helping clients achieve their real estate goals.

Two years ago, Art and his husband, a lawyer, established their own RE/MAX franchise, RE/MAX Signature, in Downtown Los Angeles. They serve the luxury market in Downtown LA, West LA, and also New York City, where they are also licensed and deal in new construction. “A lot of my clients are overseas investors from Asia,” Art explains, “so I visit those countries quite often. Those clients have all become family. We attend the Luxury Property Showcase in Beijing and Shanghai twice a year.”

Almost all of Art’s business comes from repeat and referral clients, an impressive feat that speaks to the trust and confidence he inspires. “I truly provide white-glove service for all of my clients,” Art says. “They know that they’re not just clients or transactions to me. These are long-term relationships, and I give it my all. I really love what I do.” Art achieved Diamond Club status (over $1 million in commissions) with RE/MAX in 2020, was named to the 2020 Top 20 list (number 18) for RE/MAX agents in California, and out of nearly 70,000 RE/MAX agents nationwide, he is in the Top 100 (number 54).

This white-glove service extends beyond selling properties to staging and remodeling. “Interior design is my other passion, and I’ve been able to merge interior design with real estate,” Art says. “I’m fortunate that my husband likes dealing with the boring matters – legal and financial -while I get to concentrate my time on the creative aspects of the real estate business.”

Community involvement is important to Art, and he donates to several charities that benefit the homeless population in Downtown LA. He donates furniture from his staging collection to an organization for people who have been moved off the streets and into housing. Art also contributes to the South Park Business Improvement District to help maintain a clean community, and supports the LAPD through the Central City Police Boosters. Art annually also participates in Adopt a Family for the holidays, an LA County program which provides Christmas cheer to a local needy family. When they are not working or giving back, Art and his husband design and flip properties for themselves. They also enjoy playing golf.

In the future, Art is working on opening another RE/MAX Signature office in Rancho Mirage, where they have a vacation home and are already actively assisting clients with their real estate needs. Above all, Art plans to continue providing the same white-glove service to his clients. “I love my clients,” he says. “They keep me going. Whether they’re buying a luxury property or a multi-unit investment, our dynamic is one of very open communication. They trust me. They know I’m not just after a quick sale and I don’t cut corners. I provide them what I’ve promised and go above and beyond with my white-glove service.”
