Timmy Ostrom got his start in the mortgage business seventeen years ago. At the time, he was working as Soccer Coach at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. After a career-ending injury, he and his future wife, Brandy moved to Vancouver, Washington. In 2003, Timmy launched his mortgage career at a company owned by his brother-in-law owned, and since then, Timmy has built a reputation for his professionalism, creative problem-solving, and industry leadership.
Today, Timmy heads Vancouver’s first branch of Fairway Mortgage, heading a team of eight loan officers, three administrative support staff, and a processor. Together, Timmy and his team command the market and work alongside some of the top producers in the greater Vancouver and Portland regions. Likewise, they offer the full spectrum of loan products for buyers of any kind. In particular, Timmy has made a name for himself as an expert in new construction loans and as military mortgage specialist. “We work with a lot of veterans, and with quite a few builders in town,” he explains. “We have access to any possible financing solutions for people who are building a home.” Considering almost the entirety of Timmy’s business is built on repeat and referral business, he has proven himself as an indispensable asset when navigating the transactional process. “The most important thing we consider is what’s best for our clients,” he says. “We go the extra mile and find the most beneficial programs for our clients. We make sure we’re putting people in the right programs for their future, and that’s how we’re able to earn referrals and business. We focus on making this a positive experience.”
As a big believer in a community-first approach that spreads kindness to all, Timmy initiated the Share the Love program, which does good deeds for past and current clients as a way of staying connected. “The beauty of our business is that we get to choose who we work with,” he says, “and I’ve had the privilege to partner with some of the very best in town.” Likewise, he ensures that borrowers understand the process, are empowered with options, and are left feeling confident that their needs and goals have been met. “Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions in my clients’ lives. It probably goes back to my experience as a coach, but I really enjoy the opportunity to guide people through this process,” he says. “I also enjoying coaching my team, bringing out the best in them, and providing them the tools to grow their business and enjoy their careers—while helping as many families as they can along the way.”
Beyond the office, Timmy gives back to his professional community as a member of the Building Industry Association, the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Washington Contractors Association, and Bridge the Gap, a non-profit helping to fund foster kids’ participation in enriching extra-curriculars. In his free hours, Timmy most enjoys time spent with his family, camping, and cheering on his kids at their various sports events.
Looking ahead, Timmy shows no signs of slowing, especially with a new location in the works. “We’re concentrating on growing our professional family,” he says. “At the end of the day, everyone here is dedicated to helping others succeed in and enjoy the homebuying process. It’s an exciting time, but it can also be really scary. It’s our job to take the uncertainty out of the equation and make this experience a positive memory for all.”
